honeymoon day 3//

CHICHEN ITZA
THE MAYAN RUINS

Tuesday morning, we woke up at 7:00 am [Scott was obviously super happy about that] and traveled to the Mayan world. It was a 2 hour drive, and worth every single second. I felt like I was in a movie, looking at the most incredible ancient architecture. OK... but the sun was horrific. Even Beto, our personal tour guide, who is a local, said the sun was 10 times worse in Chichen Itza. I've never sweat so much in my life. ...too much information? Other than that, this was one of the most amazing parts of our vacation.

Meet our bus... complete with free beer to keep all the customers happy during this trip.
.........and also unlimited sprite & coca cola for us kids :)

...this is the part where I slowly closed my window curtain and
made sure not to make eye contact with these lovely men.

This is Beto. He wears cowboy hats. He made us wear big blue laniards with his
name on it the whole time. [as seen in the upcoming pictures]

The incredible pyramid! We were soooo bummed we couldn't climb it.

and this is a completely candid photo of my husband....

I LOVED looking at all these little trinkets.

After, we went down the road to a local restaurant and ate our hearts out.
We were a little drowsy, to say the least.

So we took a siesta in a purple hammock.

Then we headed over to another village to swim in a cenote.

This is the cenote.
A cenote is a natural sinkhole caused by the collapse of limestone.
This one was HUGE! Everyone had to climb down those string things hanging to get to the bottom to swim. Ok no, we only had to hike down through this cave to reach the bottom.

Here's what it looks like at the bottom. It was the perfect cool down to a long, hot day.
There were dark purple fish swimming all around us and it took everything inside me not to scream.

It was another long two hours drive back home.
We were sooo happy to be able to explore this amazing part of the world!

& one day, we're going to introduce Beto to Beto's.

We heart Chichen Itza.
